Ian Hunter is Associate Professor at The University of Auckland Business School. A qualified business historian, he is the author of nine books including IMAGINE, When People Matter Most (with Colin Prentice), and Age of Enterprise. As Director of The University of Auckland Business Case Centre, he is involved in the production of text and multi-media cases used in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
Between 2003 and 2006 Ian was Director of The University of Auckland Business History Project, an initiative under the Government Partnerships for Excellence initiative.
This multi-faceted project resulted in multi-media productions, business cases, an international business history conference, and publication of a scholarly collection of essays on Auckland’s economic development, City of Enterprise: Perspectives on Auckland Business History (Auckland University Press) of which he was editor.
Ian's work on economic development and innovation has been published in leading international journals, such as Business History, Management and Organization, and Business History Review and in 2005, he was visiting lecturer at the University of Reading where he worked as senior consultant to the Department of Trade and Industry (UK) and supervising academic on the Knowledge Transfer Partnership Scheme.
In 2010, he is the Leverhulme Visiting Professor at the University of Reading and Henley Business School, UK.
Ian is a regular commentator on economic affairs and assists businesses and government agencies with innovation strategies and economic development and is in demand as a conference speaker on innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic development.
He and his wife Debra have five children. They live in Auckland.
